       To support Shanghai's development as a globally influential hub for science and technology innovation, further promote international cooperation and exchange in education, and attract outstanding students and scholars from around the world to study and conduct research in Shanghai, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government established the Shanghai Government Scholarship in 2006. This program provides funding for outstanding international students to pursue studies in Shanghai.

I. Eligibility

Applicants must be foreign nationals in good health.


II. Application Period: November of each year to May 30 of the following year


III. Duration of Support

Master's: 2-3 years

Undergraduate: 4 years


IVCategories, Coverage, and Standards

   1. Scholarships are categorized as Type A and Type B.

   2. Coverage:

    Type A: Tuition, accommodation, living expenses, comprehensive medical insurance;

    Type B: Tuition, comprehensive medical insurance.

   Note:

    International students requiring preparatory education receive living allowances commensurate with their student status. Teaching subsidies are disbursed to the Shanghai Preparatory College at the undergraduate Category I standard.


V.Application Requirements

   1. Age and Academic Qualifications

    ⑴ Undergraduate applicants must hold a high school diploma or equivalent and be no older than 25 years of age;

    ⑵ Master's applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent and be no older than 35 years of age;

    ⑶ Foundation program applicants must hold a high school diploma or equivalent, possess a pre-admission letter from an undergraduate institution, and be no older than 23 years of age.

   2. Language Proficiency  

    (1) Undergraduate applicants must demonstrate Chinese proficiency at least equivalent to HSK Level 4 (minimum score of 180) and provide corresponding certification;  

    (2) Master's applicants must demonstrate Chinese proficiency at least equivalent to HSK Level 5 (minimum score of 180) and provide corresponding certification.  

    Note: Applicants must not concurrently hold any other scholarship awarded by the Chinese government.


VI.Annual Review

       Institutions to accept scholarship students in this city must have comprehensive review of different scholarship students annual achievement,learning attitude,attendance,performance,rewards and punishments.The one who is reviewed qualified can obtain qualification of the next academic year scholarship.Otherwise,qualification of scholarship will be suspended or canceled from next academic year.
